Charity Begins is a radio sitcom set in a Northern charity shop. The series follows the highs and lows of the shop workers. Manager Evie is haunted by a past she wants to keep secret. She is aided by her two shop assistants, Bev and Martin.

These three characters are trying to make it in a charity shop where volunteers are few and far between, family members decide that the shop is the best place to hide from the law, and customers believe that Ming Dynasty vases are commonplace donations.

The series arc involves discovering who Derek – the man from Evie’s past – really is, and arranging the Christmas Do of the millennium after last year’s horrendous attempts at a soiree.

This is Dynasty for the new ages: if Joan Collins wore Tena Lady, and had a smoker’s cough.
